a collection of quotes from my professors: “The level of frat-boyness in Charles’ court cannot be overstated.” “I woke up, looked at the grey sky, and felt instantly depressed. The only way to get through the day is to embrace the grammar.” “‘Feminist Grammarians.’ Don’t those just sound like people you want to invite to your next...

“The weather here warm enough for you?” I can tell from his choice of conversation that he knows something about humanity. Weather—the classic choice for uncomfortable dinner chats, a snippet of discussion with a gas station attendant, small talk made between two strangers walking to their cars, as the two of us were now. Weather—something that everyone experiences and lives in and most only...

“Sleigh Bells’ music is even oddly pretty, just as the miraculous functionality of an anxiety-inducing traffic pattern can be pretty. I imagine that messing with any of the widgets on their console during a mixdown would result in a track that could be used to torture enemy combatants, if not to trigger Scanners-caliber cranial kablooey. In concert, they do a masterful job of...

Miss Kat: Today was great! →
katteaches: I started off in a kinda bad mood today. But kids always make it better (no matter how much I dread going to school)! First we visited and toured Gateway Center for special needs kids. I got teary eyed many times. These kids are precious and the teachers/staff/nurses care SO much about them. It’s… KAT THIS IS THE SWEETEST THING I’VE EVER READ. I’ve been super...

The most exciting part of my weekend was buying Eloise a cat toy; otherwise I’ve divided my time between watching Tyler play LA Noire, avoiding reading assignments, and researching electric blankets. Counting this one a success.

Had a dream last night that some one broke into the apartment and was just standing in the bedroom, watching me. Woke up from the dream and couldn’t breathe; Tyler had to wake up and calm me down, it was awful :(.

Supporting ELL students
Any ideas for easy things I could make or do with ELL students? (I just have a few more days left of internship, so I can't do as much as I'd like)
this might be a stretch, because you and I work with different age groups, but kids LOVE telling stories. maybe you could get them to "write" a little story as best they could? and if they like drawing/coloring, you could do something like they only get to"illustrate" (draw pictures of) words they learn how to say? like I said, I don't know if it would work, but maybe it could get the wheels turning : )
